How well do you retain details of what you’ve read? Especially articles and blog posts that you read.
Last year I started to make an entry in my journal when I finished reading a book. I include a few notes or key points about the material. The process helps me reflect on what I’ve read. As a result, it better integrates the material into my mental framework.
The Challenge
I’m setting myself a challenge for the next 30 days related to articles and blog posts I read. This will be my 30-Day Reading and Reflection Challenge.
My intent is to see what impact I can make on my understanding, retention and thinking around the shorter material I’m reading.
My plan is to make a record in my journal of key takeaways from articles I read. Before moving on to something else, while the material is fresh in my mind I’ll write a few bullet points. It could be something I’ve learned, some elements I disagree with, questions that are raised or left unanswered.
I expect at the end of this experiment I will be retaining the material better and be more mindful of what it means to me. By thinking deeper about what I’m consuming it will be less likely to slide into and out of my consciousness.
I invite you to join me on this challenge to become more intentional about what you are reading and learning.
Oh, this would be great for me to try. Sometimes I read an article and have a tough time remembering the points. Thank you!
